Hologram: Glove Puppetry
In traditional agricultural societies, ceremonies honoring the gods are the most lively occasions, and among the most popular performances are undoubtedly glove puppetry. Set against the backdrop of a red, festive temple, these performances utilize hologram to recreate a variety of glove puppetry from the Japanese period, immersing the audience in the very scene and allowing them to experience the charm of popular entertainment from a century ago.

Taiwan New Cultural Movement Memorial Museum: Special Exhibition of Interests During the Japanese Colonial Period
In traditional agricultural society, Taiwanese people adhered to the value of "hard work brings success, play brings no gain." Only during festivals honoring the gods did farmers find a moment of respite. With the advent of the Japanese colonial period, new concepts of time and modern entertainment gradually entered daily life, such as event photography, phonographs, parks, zoos, and beaches, among other things that continue to this day, making leisure no longer a luxury but a part of daily life.
However, amidst the interplay of old and new ideologies, the concepts of "proper" and "inappropriate" leisure activities also came to be interpreted differently. Despite being criticized, Taiwanese opera and mahjong remained popular among intellectuals and officials; the colonial government even used these entertainments as a means of influencing public sentiment and social power. Meanwhile, members of the Cultural Association sought to promote "positive" hobbies, hoping to enhance cultural literacy and social energy.
This exhibition combines historical exhibits with new media and interactive technology to recreate the diverse leisure scene in Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period. Through the interests and entertainment of a century ago, we can observe the trajectory of social transformation and changes in life.

Load Bearing Installation
Leisure interests are often closely tied to economic ability. During the Japanese period, the leisure activities available to different income groups varied significantly. This exhibition uses the concept of "cost" to translate "weight," creating "hobby balls" of varying weights. The expensive golf ball is incredibly heavy, while the free temple theater ball is much lighter.
Visitors can place hobby balls on different career platforms to simulate the consumption capacity of different social classes. If the load exceeds the capacity of each career, the platform will collapse! Through fun interactions, visitors are able to experience the subtle relationship between interests and financial status a century ago.
